FAQs

Who can join NWAPH?

Full membership of the Association should be open to current Primary Headteachers, Leaders in the Northwest, designated representatives of Primary Associations and also to members affiliated to local Primary Associations. New members are very welcome. Please contact us for further information.

How many representatives can attend from each area?

We recommend 2 representatives per area to ensure at least one can attend each meeting. Some areas nominate 3 representatives to ensure availability of 2 representatives.

Where are NWAPH meetings held?

Meetings are currently held at the Mercure Haydock Hotel, Penny Lane, Haydock, WA11 9SG. We have found this to be a good central venue for all members.

When do meetings take place?

We normally meet once per half term from 1.00pm to 3.30pm. Additional meetings may be added as required. Lunch is provided from 12.30pm.

Do I get travel expenses?

Members can claim travel expenses for meetings at £0.45p per mile. Additional expenses incurred on behalf of NWAPH may be paid with the agreement of the executive. All claims must be on the official NWAPH expenses form and accompanied by relevant receipts.

Is there a membership fee?

Subscriptions will be £15 per primary school per LA area paid via local associations annually to cover meeting expenses, the support and administration costs of an external consultant covering the role of Operational Director and an Independent Chair. Daily rate to be reviewed and agreed at the AGM. Local associations will be invoiced annually at the start of the academic year.

What happens in the meetings?

Members share good practice and discuss any issues from their areas. We often find there are common themes across the northwest, so we share possible solutions. Members are often reassured to find they are not the only ones dealing with particular issues. We have an agreed focus for the year, so the meeting also considers next steps for actions.

Can I share information from meetings?

We ask our members to report back to their local areas by whatever means is appropriate. Minutes are sent out following the meetings. It is a good idea to have a standing agenda slot on local association meetings for feedback from NWAPH.
